Hot Roll

Magnetic, porus, easy to work with, slightly rounded edges & corners, known for its strength & durability.

Hot rolled steel is steel that has been roll-pressed at a very high temperature to make it form.

The resulting products (plate, flat bar, channel, metal sheet, etc.) are easier to work with than other types of steel.

Because of the way hot rolled steel is produced, it shrinks slightly as it cools. Hot rolled steel has a scaled surface, slightly rounded edges and corners (for bar and plate) and slight distortions. Hot rolled steel is used in applications where a high degree of precision is not required and where dimension tolerances aren’t as critical for overall strength. Hot rolled steel is often utilized to make columns for buildings, stairways and mezzanines, handrails, trailers — even machine guarding.

The scaled surface of hot rolled steel can be removed with grinding, sandblasting or through similar processes so that paint, powder coating or galvanizing can be applied.

Hot roll is magnetic and more porous than other materials, such as stainless steel. This metal will rust if not properly coated and maintained.

However, it’s strength and durability make it an excellent choice for most steel fabrication needs.
